Open Gate properties are private lands leased by NMDGF to provide access to the public for hunting, fishing and trapping. 

They are available to us only as long as we treat them with respect and keep them clean.

Landowner participation is voluntary.

Directions:  The property is located outside Casa Colorada, NM off Highway 304

Habitat: Cropland, Scrub-Woodland, Wetland, and Riparian 

Information:  Open Gate funds are used to compensate landowner for public hunting access to 289 private acres on a per acre basis.

Permitted Uses - the property is available to properly licensed hunters, anglers, and/or trappers during the established seasons and dates for which the property is enrolled.  Up to two guests may accompany each properly licensed sportsman.  Access to the property under the terms of the Open Gate agreement with the landowner will be limited to the following permitted uses:

Scouting See remarks Access for the purpose of scouting is limited to properly licensed sportsmen during the two days immediately preceding the commencement of the established seasons and dates for which the property is enrolled.

 

Property Rules - the following rules will be enforced and posted on-site.  Violation of any listed permitted use or prohibition may subject a person to criminal prosecution. 

  • Use of motor vehicles is restricted to designated roads
  • No Consumption of alcoholic beverages
  • No Camping, fires or smoking
  • Tree stands and blinds must be removed by the end of the day
  • No littering
  • No destructive acts, including vandalism, theft, removal or defacing natural features, resources or signs
  • No discharge of fireworks
  • No dog training
  • No target practice
  • The Open Gate property is open for use from two hours before sunrise to two hours after sunset
