Big Game Enhancement Packages

The big game enhancement package consists of one license each for deer, elk, pronghorn antelope, oryx and Persian ibex. Two authorization packages will be auctioned to the highest bidders for the 2012-2013 season. One package will be auctioned during the Wild Sheep Foundation's National Convention at the Reno-Sparks Convention Center in Reno, VN, Jan. 19-21, 2012. The other package will be auctioned during the annual RMEF Elk Camp, Feb 2-4, 2012 at the Riviera Hotel Casino in Las Vegas, NV.

 

The bag limits are one fork-antlered deer, one mature bull elk, one oryx of either sex, one ibex of either sex, and one mature buck pronghorn (see pages 6-7 of the 2012-2013 Big Game and Trapper Rules and Information booklet for bag limit definitions).

 

All hunts are for any legal sporting arm (specific weapons restrictions in certain areas still apply). Licenses will be valid on all public lands where hunting is allowed, and private land with written permission. For oryx, winning bidders must contact New Mexico Game & Fish two weeks in advance of the proposed hunt start date to schedule access to WSMR, and must be accompanied by a badged department employee or WSMR escort when on WSMR lands.

 

The season dates are September 1, 2012 through January 31, 2013 for deer and elk; April 1, 2012 through March 31, 2013 for ibex and oryx; and August 1 through November 1, 2012 for pronghorn.

Bighorn Sheep Enhancement Licenses

The Wild Sheep Foundation (WSF) assists the Department with the auction of one bighorn sheep license, and the New Mexico Chapter of the Foundation for North American Wild Sheep (NMFNAWS) assists the Department with a raffle of one bighorn sheep license each year. Proceeds from the auction and raffle are used for bighorn sheep research, management and propagation in New Mexico.

 

One license to hunt Rocky Mountain or desert bighorn sheep will be auctioned during the Wild Sheep Foundation's National Convention at the Reno-Sparks Convention Center in Reno, VN, Jan. 19-21, 2012. The auction winner chooses one of the available hunts (see page 46 of the 2011-2012 Big Game and Trapper Rules and Information booklet for hunt details).

 

Another license will be awarded through a raffle. The raffle winner chooses one of the remaining hunts not chosen by the auction winner. The license fee is included for the successful raffle winner. Raffle tickets will be sold through NMFNAWS for $20 each. Deadline to purchase tickets is June 15. NMFNAWS will complete and enter all orders not accompanied by tickets. The raffle winner does not have to be present to win.

 

Licenses may be used either by the recipient or any individual of the recipient's choice through sale, barter or gift. The bag limit for these hunts is any one ram, and they do not count as once-in-a-lifetime hunts.

Elk Enhancement Licenses

The Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation (RMEF) assists the Department of Game and Fish with an auction and raffle of two authorizations for bull elk licenses each year.

 

Proceeds from the auction and raffle are used for elk research, management and propagation in New Mexico. The licenses are authorized for use from Sept. 1, 2012 through Jan. 31, 2013 with any legal sporting arm.

 

One elk authorization was auctioned to the highest bidder at the annual RMEF Elk Camp, Feb 2-4, 2012 at the Riviera Hotel Casino in Las Vegas, NV. Please visit the RMEF Web site at www.rmef.org for more information.

Deer Enhancement Licenses

The Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation (RMEF) assists the Department of Game and Fish with the auction of one authorization to obtain a deer license.

 

RMEF will conduct the auction at their annual RMEF Elk Camp, Feb 2-4, 2012 at the Riviera Hotel Casino in Las Vegas, NV. Please visit the RMEF Web site at www.rmef.org for more information.

 

A second authorization will be raffled through the Mule Deer Foundation. The licenses are valid from Sept. 1, 2012 through Jan. 31, 2013 with any legal sporting arm. For more information, contact Scott Hampel at shampel@muledeer.org/.

 

Proceeds from the auction and raffle will be used for deer habitat enhancement and management in New Mexico. The permits will be valid statewide on public land where hunting is allowed (including Department owned WMAs), and private land with written landowner permission.

 

Licenses may be used either by the recipient or any individual of the recipient's choice through sale, barter or gift. The bag limit for these hunts is one buck deer.

 

Gould's Turkey Enhancement Permits
