Rick Castell, August 2010 Employee of the Month |
Name:
Rick Castell
Position:
Fisheries Manager for Northwest Area Operations
Area of Responsibility
Northwestern New Mexico
Education:
B.S. New Mexico State University, Spring 1994
Length of Service:
17 years in November
Specialty or Interest:
Hunting and fishing -- of course. Also scuba diving, running and functional strength type exercise, learning and teaching defensive tactics for our officers, and mixed martial arts (MMA).
Current Projects/Assignments:
I've recently been AIS Level 2 certified, and my duties have accordingly expanded into decontamination of AIS infected watercraft. Tiger muskie monitoring and management is still toward the top of my projects list. Also, we've just completed a year-long creel survey at Tingley Beach to assess our stocking schedule versus angler presure and demand.
Best Thing About the Job:
The ability to work outside the office much (although my colleagues would argue, all) of the time.
Most Common Question People Have:
When will you be stocking Tingley Beach with trout.
Answer:
November through March according to the schedule (although we often start as early as late September or early October).
